When you are ready to take this exam, Microsoft
assumes that you are ready to secure a Microsoft Windows 2000 network from all
intruders. To make sure you are ready they have come up with a somewhat innovative
format for the certification exam. As they put it: "This exam includes new types
of questions that are very different from other exam formats currently in use."
One major difference is case studies. You read the case study. You answer questions
on the case study. Some of the questions also use innovative formats called
build and reorder, select and place or tree-view style as opposed to the more
traditional multiple-choice varieties.
CBT Vision has also
kept pace with the content and format of the Microsoft exams that we prepare
you to pass. We are committed to helping you pass your exam. Then you can go
on to help other people secure their networks. The skills that exam 70-220 measures
are summarized below:
Analyzing Business Requirements - This is certainly
a new activity for some technically oriented people. It must be done. The case
studies are a great help. Once you get used to reading them, you realize that
they are full of hints as to the correct procedure and policy for a given situation
such as:
- Analyzing business and security requirements for the end
user or
- Analyzing the current physical model and information security
model
Analyzing Technical Requirements -Questions that fall
into this category will require you to evaluate the company's existing and planned
technical environment or analyze the impact of the security design on the existing
and planned technical environment. In doing these things you always have the
case study itself as a crucial reference
Analyzing Security Requirements - takes you through
tasks such as designing a security baseline for a Windows 2000 network and identifying
the required level of security for each resource. In this case, you won't be
reporting to anyone, you'll just be trying to pass a test.
Designing a Windows 2000 Security Solution - Yes, the
solution will usually be from Microsoft, but you will need to know the right
one to implement based on all the requirements you've analyzed. Solutions will
involve auditing, delegating authority and encrypting files - as well as Kerberos,
RADIUS and SSL.
Designing a Security Solution for Access Between Networks
- At the enterprise level there is rarely just one network or a single domain
involved. LAN, WAN and public network communication paths must all be secured.
Designing Security for Communication Channels - People
that hack for fun, profit or spite tend to have an intimate knowledge of the
paths that information takes from one host to another - even within a network.
It will be up to you to know how to secure those paths from those people using
technologies like IPSec, SMB-signing and IP filters.
